The Spring Conference in Reno, Nevada is off to a wonderful start!  We number about 160 in attendance at this conference; a small group, but everyone is very nice, and the smaller number will give us a chance to actually get to know more people.

Our speaker on Day One, Jan Harrison, covered a wide range of areas in her session "How to Create Job Security In An Unsecure Economy... One Relationship At A Time".  We learned how to create positive workplace relationships; how to deal with difficult people; how to establish rapport; collaboration areas; communicating across generations and personality types; how to persuade and influence others to our way of thinking; gaining buy-in for our ideas; building bridges; and also stress reducers for staying healthy in our demanding jobs.  WHEW!   So much information in one day, but it was all presented in such a way that we were all present and engaged for the full day.

There's a task set up every Friday on my Outlook calendar that says, "Thank three people, preferably in writing." If I don't complete it, it stays on my reminder list. Yes, there have been times when there were two of the same reminder staring me in the face. Didn't get around to doing it last week... now the "work" has doubled. (Tsk, I used to warn my children of that danger - do it before it's twins!) [more]

What do you know about owning a business, I thought.  Where do I draw upon for all of the challenges of running a business of my own?  There are taxes and forms and major responsibilities, how will I start?  Then I sat down and thought about it in detail.  I started to recall all of the jobs that I had and what I did.  Slowly, but surely it dawned on me that I knew how to run my own business, I had been doing it as an administrative professional for over 20 years! Now all I had to do was to recognize my own power and ability to become a business owner. [more]
